Tunable
Diffraction Grating
InterScience
has developed a tunable diffraction micrograting on a chip.
The key feature of this MOEMS-based compound grating is that
its diffractive properties can be changed simply by the application
of a voltage without the need for multiple gratings or mechanical
drives. A voltage application of about 40 volts is required.
It has been applied to the development of an ultralightweight
spectrometer and also has application in optical switches.
