The
Network Technician at InterScience works independently and is responsible
for overseeing the daily operations of the company's LAN, comprising approximately
30 desktop computers, 2 laptops and 4 printers. This position reports
directly to the IT Manager and the Vice President of Operations.
Requirements
2 - 4 year college degree (completed or actively pursuing) in the field of Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or Network Administration.
U.S. Citizenship
Experience with virtual computing
Experience with Windows Small Business Server 2003
Experience with LINUX Routers, TCP/IP, IP subnetting
Experience with scripting automation
Description
of Responsibilities
Virtualized Windows SBS 2003 is fully employed as the production server with Active Directory and Exchange for email. A Linux router/firewall is used as well as workstation firewalls, antivirus, and IDS. Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, reading server logs pertaining to security, system, application, and DNS as well as gathering web server usage data. A strong understanding of scripting in wsh, vb and batch scripting is required. The Network Technician should have a good understanding of software and hardware from boot process to application execution, and be able to trouble shoot problems on their own. In addition the Network Technician is the first point of contact for computer related issues at ISI, including software and hardware issues, as well as multiple network printers. Data backups are done daily, weekly, and monthly. The Network Technician is responsible for ensuring completion, proper storage, and data integrity of the backups. Monthly backups are stored on hard drives and transferred offsite for safe keeping, while maintaining a copy of the previous backups on site for immediate recovery (if necessary). Logs are to be kept accurate in order to track the current location and responsible parties involved in the monthly backups - this is all of the company data. In addition to daily tasks there are long term tasks the Network Technician should perform, including researching and testing new hardware and software that will be used in a production environment and maintaining the company database in Microsoft Access.
