Plasma
Pyrolysis
InterScience,
Inc.'s joint venture subsidiary, Plasma Pyrolysis Systems,
Inc., offers transportable, turnkey plasma pyrolysis systems.
Plasma pyrolysis is a process which reduces materials to
their more basic chemical components by means of an intensely
hot (thousands of degrees F) gas plasma. It is not a combustion
process: no oxygen is required. They are especially useful
for destroying infectious medical wastes, hazardous industrial
wastes and shipboard wastes. Typically, waste is reduced
to approximately 1/200th of its original volume. The residue
is an inert glassy slag which can do no harm to the environment
and can be landfilled or recycled as a construction material.
Plasma
Pyrolysis Systems, Inc. (PPSI) offers a compact system for
disposal of wastes where space is at a premium, such as
on ships and at hospitals. PPSI's plasma pyrolysis systems
reduce waste to between 0.5% and 5% of its original volume.
